Ha ha! Our Excel spreadsheet itinerary for the trip had Steph listed as “WFH” (“work from home”) – little did we know. Thanks COVID-19?
En route to London. We head to SeaTac Airport via Lyft or Uber. We’re happy to live 10 to 15 minutes from the airport, and in general, don’t get much air traffic noise at our home. Della and Jack will stay at home with the dog-sitter. We will be staying in London for two nights to get over a bit of jet-lag before heading down to South Africa. Steph’s Mum will connect with us for the London to Johannesburg flight. Flying with Virgin Atlantic, which we like and have been doing for a while – the route uses Boeing 787 Dreamliners – the carbon fiber aircraft (as opposed to aluminum) that have several benefits for passengers (won’t get into that now). Good food and pretty good service. Currently, actually trying to not think about when we will eventually get on an airplane again, and what it will be like post-COVID.
We have a “red-eye” flight, overnight, so we’ll arrive London the next day in the morning. After watching too many movies (I have trouble sleeping on airplanes), we arrive Heathrow Airport, London. Would have also assessed potential benefits of the HumidiFlyer - which we actually got pre-COVID.
Packing for Australia, 1996. The quiver of arrows did not go on the trip - they were just hanging on the wall. 2020 would have been our sixth trip to Africa - we're getting rather efficient at packing now.
